PERSONNEL division
meet the passionate, smart, and amazingly lovely people who work here.
It takes a lot of patience to get into the Scotch Whisky business. That’s given us the luxury of time to build a truly wonderful team of talented people.
We regularly advertise for new roles. Visit www.mucklebrig.com to search for any vacancies.
BREWING & DISTILLING DIVISION
-
ANDY COLMAN
SENIOR OPERATIONS MANAGER
Andy joined us back in 2019 to mastermind production of Lind & Lime Gin. Soon he will also need to mastermind production of Port of Leith Single Malt Whisky.
Whether he’s procuring new equipment, recruiting new team mates, coordinating duty payments or just making sure there’s enough coffee in the Kitchen, it seems like we’re always asking Andy to sort it out.
-
SAM TRAVERS
HEAD OF GIN PRODUCTION
Sam is a hugely talented and passionate distiller, but his skills also extend to whisky blending, cocktail creation and for good measure, a bit of winemaking on the side.
He constantly interrogates our processes and recipe to find opportunities for improvement. And the rest of the time he just looks for amazing jackets to wear.
-
EUAN DOUGLAS
DISTILLER
Euan was previously Head Brewer at the brilliant Edinburgh Beer Factory. Fortunately for us, he decided he wanted to become a distiller.
He brought with him extensive experience in managing a busy production schedule, and the most calm and measured temperament of anyone in this whole darned industry.
-
LAUREN APPLEYARD
ASSISTANT DISTILLER
Having managed a restaurant for several years, Lauren began her distilling career by training ‘ on the the job’ with 1881 Distillery in the borders.
As such, she’s came to us already supremely qualified to oversee production and bottling of Lind & Lime Gin. And as an amazing bonus, she occasionally bakes yummy things and brings them into the office.

TAMSIN JOB
VISITOR EXPERIENCE MANAGER
With over 20 years’ experience managing 5 Star Visitor Attractions Tamsin brings a wealth of knowledge to our Tours Department. When it comes to ensuring guests have the best experience possible, she knows it’s the people and the little details that count.
If Tamsin has gone missing you’ll probably find her bobbing about in her kayak somewhere in the world. Her Top Trumps Super Skill is rescuing terrified insects (especially spiders) from human beings (that Masters Degree in Entomology had to come in handy one day).
Tamsin is heading up the Visitor Experience Departments for tours of our Lind & Lime Gin, and Port of Leith Whisky Distilleries, so speak to her about your tour, party, wedding or shindig event!

The Tours Team
We will shortly start to recruit tour guides for The Port of Leith Distillery. If you’re interested in applying please email us at jobs@mucklebrig.com, or keep an eye out for opportunities here.
BUREAUCRACY DIVISION

NEIL AITKEN
BRAND GROWTH DIRECTOR
With a love of brands, distilled spirits, and driving sustainable growth, Neil spent the first 17 years of his career working for multinationals and global spirits companies. With roles in brand marketing and business development in the UK and internationally, Neil worked on some truly great brands, including Southern Comfort, Jack Daniel’s, Glenmorangie and Ardbeg, and with some truly great teams.
In 2015, Neil left the world of big whisky brands, to join the newly independent Scotch Malt Whisky Society, where he led the scale-up, and transformation, of the international business, and company revenue.
Neil, Ian and Paddy began a conversation in June 2021, following the IPO of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society and he joined Muckle Brig in September 2021.
-
NICK SCOTT
HEAD OF SUSTAINABILITY
Nick Scott has a profound passion for making businesses more sustainable. He backed this up by living plastic free for a year - and then pretty much stuck with it. He also understands the challenges of procurement having consulted on this for the government for many years.
Having said we would put sustainability at the core of every decision, Nick ensures that we back that up with actions. He manages our certification processes and helps us work through solutions to ensure we’re making the right decision at every step.
-
TYRONE STODDART
HEAD OF CRAYONS
If there’s one thing we tend to get a lot of compliments about, it’s our designs. Here’s the guy who does it all.
Tyrone studied at Edinburgh Napier University and went on to work for the incredible Edinburgh agency Contagious, before joining us as our in-house graphic designer.
He’s quite possibly got the biggest work-load of anyone in the company. We keep coming up with new things for him to do, and of course everyone has an opinion to share on his work. Fortunately, Tyrone seems to put up with this.
-
CLAIRE TESH
BRAND MANAGER
With a love of all things spirits, Claire has worked in the drinks industry for the past 7 years in sales & marketing across the UK and Europe. Graduating from Stirling University with a degree in History, she wrote her dissertation in the temperance movement which naturally drove her into working in alcohol. Kicking off working in sales for Glasgow Distillery Company which sparked her love of whisky, she then spent the next three and a half years worked as Brand Ambassador for both Douglas Laing & Angus Dundee.
She then took the plunge and moved to the big smoke to work as Brands Manager for Berry Bros. & Rudd looking after the portfolio of whisky, rum and gin. She has recently moved back to the homeland and will look after everything brand.
-
RANALD CLARKE
INTERNATIONAL SALES EXEC
Starting off in the wine industry, Ranald transitioned to the frenetic world of tech start-ups in London.
Presented with an opportunity he could not turn down, he spent 3 years at sea as 2nd officer on large yachts criss-crossing the globe. Back home in Scotland, his understanding of different cultures and languages has been key to managing our sales around the world.
-
PHANIA DALRYMPLE
UK SALES EXEC
Like many people in our team, Phania started in the company by getting a job on our bottling line and immediately made the whole room much happier with her interminable smile.
She then joined our sales team where she’s looks after our UK clients. She loves nothing more than jumping in the van to visit a new client so if you’d like to know more about our products, drop her a line at sales@mucklebrig.com
-
CONNIE MACDONALD
UK SALES ASSOCIATE
Having began working in distilleries in her summer holidays from university, Connie went onto join the Edinburgh Gin team for a few years before moving aboard to live in the lovely heat of Spain and Indonesia.
She joined our team as a bottler a few days a week and earnt her stripes by labelling and corking more bottles than she would care to remember. Connie is now our Sales Associate helping grow our local market around Scotland and making sure our new distillery shop looks top notch for all of our visitors.
-
KIRSTY FRASER
FINANCE MANAGER / HEAD OF CHOCOLATES
Kirsty is our Finance Manager and joined us having worked her way down the East coast of Scotland, growing up in Inverness before stopping en route in Aberdeen for 4 years to study Accounting and Finance at Robert Gordon University.
A keen rugby fan and player, she moved to Edinburgh in 2016, not only to have a shorter commute to Murrayfield, but to join Standard Life on their Accountancy graduate scheme where she completed exams with the Chartered Institute of Management Accounting. When not on the rugby pitch or in the office, Kirsty can be found in the kitchen rustling up some baked goods.
-
IAN STIRLING
FOUNDER / CO-CEO
Ian had a brief stint doing PR for West End shows (Christian Slater specifically asked never to work with him again). He then decided his future was in wines and spirits.
Starting at the bottom at Majestic Wine, he spent 18 months in retail and deliveries, while working his way through WSET qualifications. There then followed the job of a lifetime with Roberson Wines, where Ian was tasked with establishing a new off-trade department, selling to UK retailers and international importers. Travelling the world, securing major listings with multiple retailers, and developing brands as he went, Ian began to build the naive confidence that perhaps he might be able to do it all for his own company one day…
-
PADDY FLETCHER
FOUNDER / CO-CEO
After a short stint as a financial journalist, Paddy switched careers into finance, training as an accountant in London. After a short spell working for a major house builder, he entered the world of tech start-ups.
He began working for the London-based taxi e-hailing app Hailo, growing international financial operations and taking the group through several funding rounds. In 2015 he was headhunted to join YPlan, a fast-growing ticketing app, as Finance Director and he oversaw the sale of YPlan to Time Out plc in 2016. His final role before going full-time on the distillery was as Finance Director EMEA at WeWork, during a time of extraordinary growth for the global co-working space start-up.
Beyond whisky, Paddy is passionate about building a tech-enabled company that is efficient, ethical and well-run.
