PRIVATE WHISKY CASKS

Our whisky is most valuable to us once it has matured and we can sell it as Port of Leith Single Malt
and, ultimately, we want to keep as much of it as possible to ourselves…

However, we also love the idea that some of our most ardent supporters can own, not just a piece of the distillery, but their own private whisky. A finite stock whose owner will rejoice in its use for celebratory birthdays, wedding gifts, Christmas dinners where you treat yourself to a bottle of the good stuff, and the ultimate and final toasts for those no longer with us.

You in turn can take pride in your access to one of the most restricted cask offers of any new distillery in Scotland.

To find out everything there is to know about our private casks offer, you can download the brochure here. If you would like to enquire about purchasing one of our casks, you can complete the form below, or email us at casks@leithdistillery.com.

For those who like the idea of owning whisky from Port of Leith Distillery, but do not require a full cask, we also offer a limited number of Cask Shares further down this page.

CASK SHARE OPTIONS

We understand a full cask is not for everyone. One of the reasons we founded this distillery was to make whisky as accessible as possible to the people that love it. So we’ve created ‘Cask Shares’; an opportunity to purchase a 2 or 6 bottle share of one of our private casks. For those who would like to take part in the journey of our whisky without committing to an entire cask, we offer a limited number of Cask Shares. Each share represents a small portion of a single cask of Port of Leith whisky, and comes with its own numbered certificate.

Each cask that we’ve selected for this programme has already been filled and sitting in our warehouse for many months. This cask will be matured for a fixed duration of 5 or 10 years, and then bottled.

Two cask types. Two distinct spirits.
Not all casks are the same, and we'd never treat them that way. We fill our ex-bourbon barrels with a lighter to medium bodied spirit, a blend of yeasts and a cleaner wort which give a slightly delicate character that is built for bourbon. For our ex-Oloroso Sherry casks we fill a medium to heavier new make spirit, adjusting the yeast ratios and creating a semi-cloudy wort which allows the spirit to hold it's own in the cask.

Please read our T&Cs below. If you have any questions, or would like to find out more about our Cask Share options above, please contact us at casks@leithdistillery.com.

  • Casks will be bottled in 2030 or 2035, depending on the share purchased. We cannot specify which month at this stage, but we guarantee that they will be bottled and dispatched within that calendar year.

  • Casks will be bottled at 52% ABV without chill filtration.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • For our 2025 offering we have selected two cask types: a 250-litre capacity, First Fill Oloroso, seasoned with dry Oloroso sherry for 18 months. We have also selected 200-litre capacity ex-Bourbon casks from the famous Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky. We can expect that American oak will provide a sweetness, with hints of vanilla and coconut, whilst the European oak will provide richer and darker flavours like dried fruits and sultanas.

  • We will design a bottle and label that will fit the brand and quality of the whisky you are buying. Some personalisation will be available on the label. For legal reasons the distillery name must appear on the label. Basic artwork assistance can be provided by our team or we can suggest suitable partners.

Should you wish to bottle the whisky into a different bottle, this may be possible however we reserve the right to maintain the consistency of the brand across the bottlings.

  • While we can’t guarantee this, if we are able to, we will almost certainly seek to buy part or all of the cask back from you.

  • We would never promote this as an investment and the terms and conditions of our sale mean that you can’t sell and remove the cask from our warehouse. Once you receive the bottles, they are yours to do what you wish. The value of those bottles in the future will be driven by the rarity of what you are buying (this is a very restricted programme) and the value we build in the Port of Leith Distillery brand over the next decade.
